Tackling Ontario’s Labour Shortage
Tackling Ontario’s Labour Shortage
To build a stronger Ontario that works for everyone, we need to welcome more economic immigrants with the skills we need, especially in the skilled trades and healthcare.
Ontario is facing a historic labour shortage with nearly 300,000 jobs going unfilled, and it is critical to ensure we have the resources to select and welcome those best placed to succeed, building stronger communities for everyone.
As part of 2023 Budget: Building a Strong Ontario, our government is investing an additional $25M over three years in our Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.
This investment will speed up processing and ensure those coming to Ontario can start working in their professions quickly. These improvements will also ensure the system can handle increased nominations now and in the future.
Further to this mission, earlier this month Ontario joined the federal government to announce a doubling of the number of economic immigrants the province selects to a historic high of 18,000 by 2025.
This government is ready to welcome more skilled newcomers to Ontario, to help build the highways, transit, schools, homes and hospitals our growing population needs.
