Strengthening Ontario’s food processing sector

Ontario’s agri-food processing sector is a significant contributor to the province’s economy, and the government is committed to helping its businesses continue to grow and succeed.

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $10 million through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) to help eligible food processing businesses increase energy efficiency in their operations.

This investment supports the ministry’s commitments towards the Sustainable CAP shared goal of 3-5 Megatonne reduction in Greenhouse Gases over the life of the agreement.

This initiative builds on many actions to support the resilience of the overall food supply sector in the province and to help reach the goals for its expansion set out in our Grow Ontario strategy.

Sustainable CAP will help enable the goals outlined in Ontario’s Grow Ontario Strategy, which include increasing the production of food by 30 per cent over the next 10 years, growing agri-food exports by eight per cent annually, and to build and maintain world-class research infrastructure.

Eligible applicants can receive up to a 20 per cent cost share for eligible and approved project costs. The maximum funding available per business is $300,000.
