Queen’s Park Restoration Act

There is a clear and demonstrated need for a comprehensive restoration of the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen’s Park, like all other 19th century Legislatures in other jurisdictions.

Piecemeal repairs are no longer viable. A full restoration of the Legislative Building and re-location of operations is needed to bring it up to modern safety and operational standards to meet the needs of parliamentarians and serve the people of Ontario for years to come.

That is why the province is introducing the Queen’s Park Restoration Act, 2023, which, if passed, will establish a Secretariat within government tasked with planning and executing the full-scale restoration of the Legislative Building at Queen’s Park, including the temporary re-location of operations.

The government will leverage its significant expertise in managing large-scale infrastructure projects. The proposal, if passed, includes mandatory collaboration with the Office of the Assembly and Board of Internal Economy along with oversight of an all-party committee of parliamentarians. This will ensure that respect for the Assembly’s independence is at the project’s core.

The Queen’s Park Restoration Act, 2023 would provide a strong foundation on which government is given the authority and accountability necessary to execute this complex multi-year project.
