Providing More Support for Homelessness Prevention
Ontario’s 2023 Budget is supporting those who have fallen on hard times and are experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, homelessness by increasing the government’s investment in the Homelessness Prevention Program and Indigenous Supportive Housing Program by over $200 million annually to provide more people with not only with a place to call home but hope, for a better life.
Ontario is increasing funding by over 40 percent to support vulnerable people in the province, helping more people experiencing, or at risk of homelessness, find the right housing services and other supports.
These programs give local service managers the flexibility to allocate funding where it is most needed, for capital projects and to make better use of existing resources to focus on delivering support that our most vulnerable rely on every day, instead of spending time on administrative tasks and reporting
This brings Ontario’s total yearly investment close to $700 million dollars
This investment includes an additional $190.5 million annually in the Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP), for a total investment of nearly $654 million annually.
The government is also investing an additional $11.5 million annually in the Indigenous Supportive Housing Program (ISHP), bringing the total investment to $41.5 million.
This government continues taking bold action to tackle Ontario’s housing supply crisis. The government has already introduced a range of measures to increase housing supply, including not-for-profit housing, and we can see their growth and positive impact. We know it will take time for their impact to be fully felt, but we will continue to move forward with policies aimed at ensuring we reach our goal of 1.5 million homes by 2031.
Building a Strong Ontario is the right plan to support people and businesses today while laying a strong fiscal foundation for the future
