Protecting Our Communities
Across Canada, and right here in Ontario, we’re facing a growing wave of crime in our communities.
That’s why the government is taking immediate action to recruit, train and get more boots on the ground in every part of the province.
We’re expanding the number of recruits that can be trained every year, and we’re going to cover 100% of the cost of tuition.
That means another 140 recruits by the end of 2023, and 420 more by the end of next year.
We’re also going to clear the path for more people to consider a career in policing by introducing legislation that, if passed, will eliminate the post-secondary education requirement to become a police officer, as set out in the Community Safety and Policing Act (CSPA).
These changes will help protect our communities, especially at a time when police forces have told us that recruiting is a challenge.
Attracting new recruits, breaking down financial barriers and getting more frontline officers onto our streets means one thing: making Ontario safer.
