Ontario Supporting the Health of our Agricultural Soils

As part of Ontario’s 2023 Budget: Building a Strong Ontario, our government is delivering on the commitments outlined in the Grow Ontario Strategy to equip farmers with the technology they need to maximize their soil health and increase their productivity and profitability.

Ontario is investing $9.5 million over the next three years to improve soil data and mapping and soil evaluation and monitoring and support on-farm decision making, enabling farmers to use innovative solutions and technology to improve their long-term viability.

Soil health is essential for sustaining our agricultural and agri-food industries. Protecting Ontario’s agricultural soils is critical to ensuring long-term sustainability of food production, sector growth and economic resiliency for Ontario’s food supply chain.

This investment builds on the many actions our government has taken to support Ontario farmers and the agri-food sector, and will help reach the goals for growth and expansion set out in the Grow Ontario Strategy.
