Ontario Protecting Boreal Caribou

Ontario is supporting the protection of boreal caribou and their habitats through a record $29 million investment – the largest investment dedicated to boreal caribou in the province’s history!

The new funding will support habitat restoration, protection and other conservation activities, including monitoring, science and research as part of the conservation agreement.

Boreal caribou are an iconic species in Canada, and a healthy boreal caribou population is a good indicator of a healthy boreal forest.

In April 2022, Ontario and Canada finalized a conservation agreement for boreal caribou and committed to investing more than $10 million to implement the agreement in 2022-23.
