Ontario Launching Mobile Skilled Trades Classrooms
Ontario will need over 100,000 more tradespeople this decade to accomplish our government’s ambitious infrastructure plans, including building 1.5 million homes by 2031.
That is why we are investing $5.4 million to design and build three additional mobile, interactive tech classrooms that will travel across the province and teach students and young people about the skilled trades.
These classrooms, built and operated by Skills Ontario, will feature hands-on learning stations and simulators for auto-painting, tires and breaks, welding, electrical systems, alarm systems, heavy machinery and more.
These 12-metre-long Trades & Tech Trucks will give people an opportunity to explore the skilled trades and speak with industry members, while learning about local training opportunities, colleges and employers.
The three additional trucks will roll out in 2024 and reach 150,000 participants a year.
Our government has invested more than $1 billion over three years to help more people begin rewarding careers in the trades.
As a result of these efforts, last month, we announced that new apprenticeship registrations in Ontario have increased by 24 per cent overall and by nearly 30 per cent for women.
