Newmarket – Aurora – The Ontario government is investing in its seniors in Newmarket – Aurora by funding $28,967.13 in three projects that will help seniors stay safe, fit, active, healthy, and socially connected across the community with Seniors Community Grants. Recipients in Newmarket – Aurora include:
• Newmarket Public Library – Newmarket
• The Regional Municipality of York – Newmarket
• The Town of Aurora – Aurora
“These investments make a big difference in the lives of Ontario’s older adults here in
Newmarket – Aurora, said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP, Newmarket – Aurora.
“Staying connected close to home and safely taking part in local life ensures that our
seniors keep active with friends, family and the community.”
“Seniors Community Grants are keeping our seniors fit, active, healthy and socially
connected close to home, in their communities,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for
Seniors and Accessibility. “Our government is proud to invest in these projects with local
organizations to meet the needs of seniors, provide the supports seniors need and
deserve that also help to battle social isolation.”
“We are excited to be able to give senior’s another way to access information and
entertainment from their own homes. This grant gives us the technology to share and
allows us to be able to provide workshops to encourage life-long learning and
discovery,” said Tracy Munusami, CEO of the Newmarket Public Library.
“The health and well-being of our residents and communities remain a top priority for
York Regional Council. We extend our appreciation to the province of Ontario for the
funding grant to support seniors living in community housing across York Region,” said
York Region Chairman and CEO Wayne Emmerson. “This funding will help residents
living at four local community housing sites with the opportunity to further build their
financial literacy, deepen social connections and celebrate diversity among one
another.”
“I want to thank the Ontario Government for this important investment in our community.
Keeping our older adults active and engaged is an important priority for the Town of
Aurora, and this funding will help strengthen the programs we offer many residents,”
said Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas.
These projects are part of the 305 Seniors Community Grants investing into
communities across Ontario this year. Since 2018, Ontario has funded 1249
community-based projects and invested almost $22 million dollars in Seniors
