Ontario Creating Opportunities for Youth in Niagara
July 19, 2023
Across Ontario, more than 300,000 jobs continue to go unfilled every day, costing the province billions in lost productivity.
Every paycheque not collected is a missed opportunity for a worker and their family to start a better life.
That is why we are investing $2.9 million through our Skills Development Fund to support an innovative training project helping 250 young people in Niagara region get the training they need to land good jobs in the technology sector.
Led by the Town of Lincoln, the Youth Skills Studio will teach participants about digital marketing, web development, digital systems administration, cloud computing, and IT.
It includes a partnership with 75 small and medium sized businesses who are hiring, offering participants the opportunity to work on real-world projects and businesses cases submitted by employers in the community.
The four-month program will build participants’ technical and workplace skills, helping prepare them for the changing future of work while ensuring Niagara’s growing economy has the skilled technology workers it needs in high-tech, manufacturing, tourism, hospitality and other critical industries.
