Ontario Creating New Program to Support Forestry Innovation and Job Creation

The Ontario government is creating the $19.6 million Forest Biomass Program to develop the potential of forest biomass, strengthen regional economies and create new opportunities in the forest sector.

Forest biomass consists of by-products like bark, shavings and sawdust, as well as trees or above-ground tree parts unsuited to the production of other forest products and can be used in everything from fuel to bioplastics to landscaping products.

The Forest Biomass Program will accelerate development of new and innovative forest biomass uses, put unused wood to work and support sustainable forest product operations while delivering on the government’s Forest Sector Strategy and Forest Biomass Action Plan commitments.
