MPP Gallagher Murphy’s 6 Months in Review

Hello everyone, I’m Dawn Gallagher Murphy, your MPP for Newmarket—Aurora. As I have reflected on my last year as your MPP, I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about a wonderful event and some provincial investments in support of our great community.

My first Seniors Month Community Connections Expo was held at the beginning of June in Newmarket, to bring together organizations that seek to support, serve, and engage seniors in our community. Together with the Minister of Seniors and Accessibility, Raymond Cho, and his Parliamentary Assistant, Daisy Wai, we hosted a roundtable to hear from seventeen organizations from across Newmarket—Aurora and discuss how we can further assist them in their goals to support seniors.

It was a pleasure to share funding announcements across Newmarket—Aurora in the past months, including:

• An investment of $36.7 million to the Municipality of York Region in the homelessness prevention program.

• Over $30 million in additional one-time funding to support York Region Public Health.

• $102,876 split between the Town of Aurora Seniors Centre and Town of Newmarket.

A total of $1,178,000 invested to support programs by CAYR Community Connections, CMHA York Region & South Simcoe, Marquee Theatrical Productions, Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association, Bluedoor, and Girls Inc. York Region.

It is with great honour that I represent the people and families of Newmarket—Aurora at Queen’s Park. Have a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you out in the community over the coming weeks.
