Celebrating the vibrant community of seniors in Newmarket-Aurora.

NEWMARKET— MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy welcomed nearly 400 seniors and more than 30 exhibitors to her Third Annual Seniors’ Expo, held at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall. This event brought together older adults, caregivers, community organizations, and service providers to help seniors access valuable local resources.
The Expo featured a wide range of exhibitors offering programs and services designed to help seniors stay active, healthy, and socially connected. Attendees also enjoyed informative presentations, with Dr. Makary sharing information related to primary care, followed by Christine Dewhurst from Protexxa, who provided advice on fraud prevention and cybersecurity. Afterwards, Tom Pearson and his team from the Very Useful Theatre Company entertained guests with a wonderful performance.
Guests also enjoyed the complimentary Tea Room, which offered tea, coffee, pastries, and fresh fruit, providing a welcoming space to relax and connect throughout the morning.
“I started this event to help connect seniors with the many excellent services available in our community, and I am thrilled to see it continue to grow each year,” said MPP Gallagher Murphy. “It was wonderful to see so many seniors come together to learn, engage, and build connections.”
The event also recognized the importance of investing in programs and services for seniors across Newmarket–Aurora. Through initiatives such as the Seniors Active Living Centres (SALC) Program and the Seniors Community Grant Program, more than $220,000 is invested annually to help local organizations deliver programming that helps seniors remain active, independent, and engaged in their communities.
In addition to connecting guests with local resources, the Expo showcased the important role that community organizations, service providers, volunteers, and partners play in assisting older adults across Newmarket–Aurora and York Region. Together, their efforts help seniors and their families access trusted information, practical support, and meaningful opportunities to stay involved in the community.
MPP Gallagher Murphy extended sincere appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the Expo, including exhibitors, speakers, volunteers, and community partners.
