Helping Workers Earn More
June 15, 2023
Ontario will need 100,000 more workers in the skilled trades this decade to build the province’s historic infrastructure projects.
Careers in the skilled trades are meaningful, well-paying and offer a path to a better life.
That is why our government is investing over $364,000 to support an innovative training program designed to help 100 millwrights and apprentices upgrade their skills to earn bigger paycheques for themselves and their families in southwestern Ontario.
Led by Millwright Local 1592, the investment will also help businesses find the skilled workers they need to build and maintain the hospitals, schools, vehicle plants and other historic infrastructure investments coming to the region.
This program will provide participants with the tools needed to advance their careers in millwrighting with equipment training, technical skilling and employment support.
Participants will be trained and certified on four pieces of equipment including boom lifts and elevating work platforms, forklifts, telehandlers, and scissor lifts.
