Governments Strengthening Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability

July 13, 2023

The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing over $68 million through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) to fund three programs that will support farmers in making agricultural lands more productive and resilient.

Included in this initiative is the $56.7 million Resilient Agricultural Landscape Program (RALP), that supports land uses that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and sequester carbon.

RALP is accompanied by a supplemental program called the Agricultural Stewardship Initiative (ASI),  a $5 million cost-share that will enable farmers to modify their equipment and adapt operations to support sustainability and increase yields.

The governments are also investing $7 million, over five years, to extend the On-Farm Applied Research and Monitoring (ONFARM) program to further understand and communicate best on-farm practices for soil health and water quality.
