The Ontario government is making continued progress on the York Region Mental Health Community Care Centre, a transformational new facility that will help ensure mental health and addictions supports are easier to access, closer to home, and available when people need them most.
The project was first announced in July 2024 by Dawn Gallagher Murphy, Member of the Provincial Parliament for Newmarket-Aurora, alongside the Honourable Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, who highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding community-based mental health and addictions care in York Region. The new hub will bring together partners and services under one roof, helping individuals aged 12 + connect to supports faster and more seamlessly.
Building on that commitment, in June 2025, MPP Dawn Gallagher Murphy announced that the government is investing $1,095,100 in one-time funding to support the first year of facility and start-up costs for The Centre, a significant step toward making this critical resource a reality.
Most recently, MPP Gallagher Murphy and Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, the Honourable Vijay Thanigasalam, joined local partners to unveil the official project sign, reinforcing the province’s ongoing support and marking another exciting milestone in the Centre’s development.
With planning, design and construction well underway, community partners anticipate further updates in the coming months as the Centre moves closer to welcoming clients. The facility is forecast to open in spring 2027, providing 24/7 supports aimed at stabilization, withdrawal management, and connections to community-based care.
