Back to School 2022-23
Following two years of pandemic-related disruption, students want, and deserve to enjoy, the full school experience throughout an interruption-free school year.
Under Premier Ford, this government has made the investments necessary to ensure a normal, stable and enjoyable return to the classroom.
All ventilation systems, across Ontario, have been optimized and more than 100,000 HEPA filters have been deployed to schools across Ontario, more than every province in Canada combined.
Schools are home to important social settings that were disrupted through the COVID-19 pandemic which is why our government is making record investments in mental health supports that many Ontario students need; $90 million – including an additional $10 million in new funding.
The government is also investing $176 million in free school-based tutoring, and an additional $225 million that will be put directly in the pockets of hard-working parents for tutoring supports of their choice.
The preparations for a stable, normal and enjoyable return to school have been made, and will continue to be updated to ensure a disruption-free school year.
As recently announced, this government introduced the Plan to Catch Up, supported by historic investments in education, including:
- $176M to expand access to free school-based tutoring;
- A further $225M going directly into the pockets of families so that students may access learning resources;
- $304M to support temporary staffing, allowing school boards to hire approximately 3,000 additional temporary staff, from teachers, to custodians to EAs; and
- $90M – including an additional $10M in new funding – for student mental health resources.
We remain committed to ensuring a normal, stable, and enjoyable return to school and to provide stability for parents.
